Transition Year – Self Defense 

On Thursday 28th February and Friday 1st March, our Transition Year pupils took part in a self defense workshop ran by self defense instructor, Leonard Smith. This workshop was organised by our TY Young Social Innovators whose project this year is based on the them of ‘Consent’.

Our Young Social Innovators feel that Consent is something young people need to be made more aware of and they wanted to organise this workshop to help young people if they ever find themselves in vulnerable or threatening situations.

Other actions our YSI team have taken this year was using photography and Photoshop to create their own Consent Awareness posters, running a Stay Awake as a fundraiser for this project and organising a guest speaker to give a talk on Consent in the coming weeks. They are now preparing for their YSI Regional Speak Out Awards which will be held in the Lyrath Convention Centre in Kilkenny on Friday 29th March.
