St Paul’s Got Talent 2016.
On Thursday December 22nd the annual talent-fest that is SPGT took place in Monasterevin Community Centre. Emceed by Mr Marron the show kicked off with a surprise performance from Ms “Adele” Garrett. The assembled students and teachers were treated to two hours of variety with no small amount of talent on display.
There were wonderful solo singing performaces from Vicky Doyle, Emma Gilnagh, Kellis Williams, Brendan McGlynn, Faith Ekonure, Jamie Robinson and Afric Doyle. A variety of dance acts included “Richie Kavanagh’s TY Bro’s”, “Mickey’s girls” and the “Saucy Sesh Moths Re-Union” (who took the best group prize). The inaugural first year Music class treated the audience to a version of “This Christmas” while the 6th Year girls sang a special St Paul’s version of the 12 days of Christmas.
Our Syrian students performed Jingle Bells on the recorders and others played their musical instruments, including Jack and Sophie, Orla Hartigan, Rachel Ryan and Alana Baker. But variety being variety, special prizes went to Shannon Maher (ably assisted by Ms Ryan) for her martial arts act and the impressive Shannon Ransome whose poem about Jacinta O Brien drew great acclaim from the audience.
The overall winner was Lucky Mahalela who danced his feet off to “juju on that beat” and received not only his cash prize but a rapturous standing ovation and was carried aloft on shoulders in celebration. Thanks to all who helped out, the acts who performed and to the committee of Monasterevin Community Centre for permission to use their facility.
