South Leinster Athletics Championships
On the 28th April and 4th May 2017 17 students from 1st, 2nd and 5th year attended the South Leinster Outdoor Athletics Championships which took place in Waterford Regional Sports Centre. There were students competing from Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Kildare, Offaly and Laois. This was the first time that students from St Pauls competed in this event.
In the minor and junior categories; Clodagh Brophy came 5th in the 100m and Amber Hughes finished 7th. Orla Hartigan and Juliette Borland came joint 7th in the 800m. Jillian Byrne and Shannon Ransome came 4th & 5th in the discus. Una Duffy finished 8th in the javelin. Shannon Maher and Mary Moraes made a great effort in the javelin and shot putt and Ben Guinean finished 7th in the discus. Patrick Duffy finished 2nd in the discus and qualified for the Leinster championships.
In the senior category Jamie Gammell came 4th in the javelin and Fionn Kavanagh came 8th. Mollie Sheridan came 7th and Katie Dunne came 8th in the javelin. Lauren Muldowney came 4th and Katie Dunne came 5th in the shot putt and Lauren came 5th in the discus. Daniel Byrne made a great effort in the discus and shot putt. It was a fantastic experience for the students who really enjoyed the day.
