Literacy

30/9/24

Literacy is more than just reading and writing; it’s the key that unlocks a world of
knowledge and opportunities. At its core, literacy is the ability to understand,
interpret, and communicate information effectively in various forms. This includes not
only traditional text but also numbers, images, and even recipes. In our school, we
recognise that literacy is the foundation for success in all subjects, from English and
Maths to Science and Practical Subjects.

At our school, we promote literacy through diverse activities and resources.
● We have a Word of the Week that gets defined during Form Group to improve
students’ vocabulary.
● We integrate the use of Chromebooks in our lessons, and have dedicated
Digital Media classes, to promote student’s digital literacy.

● All students participate in Vocabulary Enrichment Programme (VEP) to help
their everyday use of language.
● We have dedicated literacy classes for all first year students.
● TY and LCA students have library classes.
● And much more to come!

By fostering strong literacy skills across all areas of study, we equip our students
with the tools they need to succeed in school, future careers, and life.
